Sometime this morning my top drive in my drobo died. New (larger) one comes tomorrow. Let’s hope another one doesn’t die in the meantime. Lasted 7 or 8 years, not bad.

  1. I just replaced my last four HDDs (RAID-5) with two SSDs (RAID-1). The HDDs still worked great after 12 years, I just wanted to improve cooling. It occurred to me afterward that I may never again hear the dreaded click of death.

  2. I was thinking about that this morning. If the ssd in my MacBook is on its way out, there’s no physical way for me to know. This drive was all death and no click. 🙁
